US Visa Photo for DS-160: Digital 2x2 Rules
US visa applications (B1/B2 tourist, F1 student, etc.) require a digital photo uploaded with the DS-160 form. The rules are the same family as DV:
- Square format: minimum 600x600, maximum 1200x1200 pixels; JPEG ≤ 240 KB.
- Head 50–69%, eye height 56–69% from the bottom.
- White/off-white background, taken within the last 6 months.
- No glasses (since November 2016).
- Everyday clothing; uniforms and camouflage are not accepted (religious clothing excepted).
If the upload is rejected
The DS-160 photo tool sometimes rejects valid photos; in that case bring two printed 2x2 inch (5x5 cm) photos to the interview. Print at 300 dpi (600x600 pixels = exactly 2x2 inch).
